Why refer to Canine Sapien?

Doctor of Physical Therapy expertise

TJ brings his physical therapy education and specialized canine rehabilitation training to individualized treatment planning.

Hands-on, one-on-one care

Treatment focuses on the dog's specific mobility challenges, functional goals, and response to therapy.

Collaborative veterinary care

Canine Sapien works alongside the patient's veterinarian and follows medical clearance and treatment restrictions.

Convenient care options

In-home canine rehabilitation is available now in eligible Front Range communities. A dedicated Erie rehabilitation facility is coming soon.

Patients who may benefit

Common referral situations. TJ does not diagnose veterinary conditions — rehabilitation works under the veterinarian's medical direction.

  • Post-operative orthopedic rehabilitation
  • Mobility limitations and altered gait
  • Age-related weakness and reduced mobility
  • Functional limitations related to osteoarthritis
  • Strength, balance, and coordination deficits
  • Selected neurological rehabilitation needs, based on veterinary direction and clinical suitability

Colorado veterinary medical clearance

Colorado requires veterinary medical clearance before a physical therapist begins physical therapy treatment on an animal (C.R.S. 12-285-116(4)(b)). Canine Sapien coordinates with the referring veterinarian to confirm clearance and relevant medical guidance before treatment begins.

A simple referral process

  1. Step 1

    Refer your patient

Complete the referral form with the patient's information, referring practice, reason for referral, and veterinary clearance details.

  2. Step 2

    Coordinate care

TJ reviews the information and coordinates with the referring veterinarian as needed to clarify medical restrictions and rehabilitation goals.

  3. Step 3

    Support recovery together

After an evaluation and treatment plan, Canine Sapien shares relevant findings and progress with the referring veterinarian, with owner authorization and in line with your practice's workflow.
